History

In 2000, a small group of people started talking about what they could do to improve the lives of South Carolina's young citizens within a single generation.  They wondered if they could make a difference by concentrating their philanthropy in one area.  They researched problems and talked with social services professionals.

What they found was that most social problems, from dropout rates to child abuse to incarcerations, kept returning to one issue—unintended pregnancy.  Two years later, this group created New Morning Foundation to provide long-term support for unintended pregnancy prevention, specifically targeting South Carolinians younger than 30.

New Morning Foundation invests between $1.5 million and $2 million a year through grants to South Carolina charities and national non-profit organizations to improve sexual health and family planning in South Carolina.

The Foundation’s mission has evolved to include people up to age 30.  New Morning also supports TellThem! and The South Carolina Coalition for Healthy Families, which advocate for state policies to protect and expand reproductive health education and clinical services.
